Hello. It is interesting that you want to pursue a career in programming, I have not really decided what I want to do yet. :/

Anyways, welcome.

So do I! How old are you anyway? I am thirteen (going on fourteen). Welcome to the forums! Are you going to stay active here, or are you going to just sign up and fall out of the universe. I hope that you stay active enough that your username will not be truthful (although I can later change your username for you later on if you wish).

Well my untimate life goal is to fall out of the universe and enter oblivian so maybe. Razz

Na, I think I might stay although your forum(Your forum right, since there are two admins. XD) is really buggy and laggy.

David B wrote:I can later change your username for you later on if you wish).
That is okay man I believe that everyone is a noob all the time. Remeber you always learn something new everyday whether noob or pro, haha.

Anyways hello David B, and sup lego although I saw you yesterday on the chat with the nerdygirl or nerdgirl. XD

May I ask what languages you guys program in? Just to get a feel for what the "major" thing around here is ya' know?

There are two administrator accounts, but both of them are owned by me. The account "Admin" was created automatically for me when I made this forum, but I wanted my own username besides being known as "Admin." (I later learned that I could just have changed the username on the account, which would have made my life a whole lot easier.) So technically, there are two admin accounts, but since I own both of them, there is really only one admin.

I am aware of the fact that this forum is buggy and laggy, and I am working on that, however the lagging is being caused by all the JavaScript on the website, and I am not very good with JavaScript (all of it was written by someone else).

You remind me of legolizard.

noobProgrammer wrote:May I ask what languages you guys program in? Just to get a feel for what the "major" thing around here is ya' know?
I program beginners C++, really, very beginners C++. I hardly know anything. I will, however, soon begin learning C++.

Legolizard, however, is REALLY good at C++!

Nighthawk0973 (who I believe you have yet to meet) is obsessed with something called Blitz (it is kind of like a programming language, but is not really a "real" language, however it is great for starters, and helps teach basic programming concepts).

Surprised You scury.

So C++ is the big thing here? Hmph I was thinking of starting a really really easy language, and C++ seems kind of hard. Sad

What is Blitz? It is easy? Maybe I will reaserch.....

Anyways do you guys have any reco on a easy language? Thanks. (I was looking at python by the way. :p)

What does that mean?

So you are looking at Python? As of this writing, there is only one user on this forum that I know of that is an expert in Python, and his username is Arty-FishL. He is a member of the Alice Community Forums (as am I). I can send him a private message begging him to come back, and if I beg enough, he may give in. (But before I do this, I want you to start asking questions, so that if/when he shows up, he will be able to start firing off answers.

Well, define easy.

See everyone is different and honestly C++ is very easy for me but of course not for everyone as well. I am trying to learn Python at the moment however there are several impeding factors, and the syntax and speed is so different from C++'s it just makes me go. BLUUUUUUUURGGHHHHH!!!!!!! :-/

Now most likely you would want to take David's advice as Arty is REALLY good at python and jython that is if you want to learn python. Razz

But of course it is your choice. : )

And I am not really that scary just a baws. Razz

Furthermore, I am not "REALLY" good at C++, keep in mind even the dullest of diamonds looks beautiful next to coal. LAWLWALAWWLWL Just kidding. XP

But uhh yeah there are many things in C++ that I have yet to or am in the progress of, learning, : )

What language... that depends on the OS/hardware. If you have an Mac, then you can program the Mac version of C/C++ via XCode. If you have windows you are pretty much without restrictions. Windows is the most popular OS out there.

If you want something that is cross-platform then I recommend using Java. The theme 'write one, run anywhere' definately fits, as writing for one OS that has Java (like windows) can be easily ported to mac. And at your age level it shouldn't be too hard to learn Java. Chances are your high-school will require/recommend Java classes. (My kid, I would require them Very Happy) This language is used for lots of indie games. Most noteably, Minecraft. Which sold millions of copys before its official release.

If you want to use what the professional game devs and software devs use, you want C++. In terms of game dev it doesn't have the speed of development that java would have but it still boasts support for both video game consoles and portable devices such as the PSP and DS, as well as more functionality than most languages. Thus making it the most likely choice for making games. I would bet that 90% of professional games are made in C++.

If you want simplicity, to get a start on programming fundamentals without messing with complicated code, BlitzBasic is perfect for you. It's a game programming language and if you're using Mac you cna use the slightly more complicated 'BlitzMax' language. (still is very simple, just has more complecities and functionality, AKA, it's pretty much better) After 2 weeks you can start making games. Probably less.

Google: BlitzBasic for BlitzBasic (cost money however, might want to use infinate but restricted trials, or find an unofficial free version)

Google: JDK Downloads to find the Java Development Kit download. Google Eclipse if you want a Java IDE.

Google: Code::Blocks for C++/C.

Use the google formula: output = language + "wikipedia" to learn more about the language. (the plus is a space Very Happy)

------

onto proper introductions. I am Nighthawk0973. At age 12 I was pulled out of regular school because the area I lived in had bad schools. the online school I attend to now supplied my family 2 computers. One of which was "mine". I used it and eventually began programming in Java. This was the beginning of me turning into a nerd XD

I have programmed in all the languages I mentioned, only a little C++ however. I can almost make games in Java, which will be great to display to teachers when trying to move to more advanced classes in high-school computer science. I am actually going to return to public school next year if everything goes as planned. Thankfully I now have my own computer.

I am currently 13 years old and have moved into a different state. I can't get anything done on this computer because it's not mine, it's my Dads, and the only one we can set up at the giant hotel. We will be staying here for a month. This one room has two floors, 3 beds, 2 TVs, 2 Bathrooms, etc.

My area of expertise is computer game development. Dream job is to program computer games with professional companies.

In short, welcome to the forums.

And, read the rules. I have, so if you break them I will moderate you. (muahahahahahahahahahhahahaha... jk, I'm not the evil moderator. lego on the other hand...)

What about me? You know, the almighty administrator who can take away your powers (points at Nighthawk), and change the rules, etc., etc., etc.

No, the moderators are not the problem, I am the problem.

lol!

Hello, Nighthawk0973, you can call me noob. XD Thanks for your advice, although I think I might go with Python as it seems really easy, however I do plan on learning both Java and C++, maybe not in that order though lol.

I suggest starting out with Blitz to learn basic programming concepts. (After all, you are a noob, right?)
